Message from Chairperson

It is with immense pleasure and pride that I extend my warmest welcome to everyone as we gather for the Rotary International District 3310 Conference (DISCON) 2024. As the organising chairperson, and alongside other clubs such as RC Kuching Central, RC Kuching South, RC Kuching Jaya, RC Kuching Unity City, and RC Urban Kuching, are are excited to show you our hometown Kuching!

Sarawak is home to people of various ethnic groups – 27 ethnic groups, not counting the sub-groups – each one with its own distinct culture and traditions. This is your chance to experience them first-hand and be part of the rich culture and beliefs of the people of Sarawak.

We are also in one of the oldest rainforests in the world. You will experience some of the most unique wildlife and exotic plants here, some of which exist only on the island of Borneo. And some are only in Sarawak! As a birdwatcher myself, I invite you to explore Sarawak’s biodiversity – birds, mammals, herps, plants, and many more!

To celebrate our global diversity in race, culture, religion and backgrounds, and in line with our DISCON 2024 theme “Celebrate Hope”, we will attempt a Malaysia Book of Records for the largest gathering of individuals in ethnic wear performing choreographed dancing. Join us in the making of this record-breaking moment and witness the collection of people from all over the world dressed in their ethnic garb. What a fantastic scene this will be!
