The Johore Area Rehabilitation Organization (JARO) is a registered charity which manages 3 sheltered workshops catering to the rehabilitation requirements of the physically and mentally challenged. It aims to start a new lease of life for people to create a sense of independence and to reposition themselves with dignity in the mainstream of society. JARO currently has a total of 63 work people, the majority of them married with families and school-going children.
The aim of the project is to purchase two computer systems with flat-screen monitors to help improve the work environment of JARO so that the physical and mentally impaired persons in JARO can be taught computer literacy on new product development, on-line products display, and stock management under the direct supervision of volunteers, led by Chris Parry, via internet technology. The other necessary equipment required will be web cameras and a wireless router that will enable the use of Skype for internet communication.
