Revisiting an Old Project – Don Bosco Home

Overview: Visit to Don Bosco Home Don Bosco Home set in the picturesque village of BunduTuhan at the foot of Mt Kinabalu is also the site of one of the Club’s enduring projects. In 1988, the Club set up the home for providing shelter to orphaned and homeless children who were looked after by the late Brother Ben, a Dutch priest who had made Sabah his home since the late 1950s. The project was completed during the tenure of Past President John Ho. The Club gives periodic assistance to the inmates from time to time. The present visit on Sat 16 Sep was organized by Past President Robert Lai and Rotarian Captain Ong. The community service project was just completed with a visit coupled with lunch (main dish provided by us) with the 66 children and staff of Don Bosco Children’s Home, Bundu Tuhan. While there, we handed over the followings: 1) 66 sets of mattresses and pillows – from the club’s Sunshine Fund, 2) 66 sets of bedsheets and pillowcases graciously donated by Linen Trends Sdn Bhd Kuala Lumpur through PP Robert Lai’s network, 3) 6 dozens Raincoats donated by a fellow Rotarian who wishes to remain anonymous, 4) 66 note books donated by Rtn Jason Lee’s mother, Mrs Linette Lee, 5) 68 Hyatt Regency grade (used but in excellent condition) towels through Rtn Thor, 6) 20 text books of various subjects donated by PP Yung Seng Fook, now of RC Petaling Jaya, 7) Cooked pork dish by Rtn Captain Ong with cost shared by Rotarians who came along for the visit, 8) An assortment of drinks and packaged food items the cost of which was shared by all participating Rotarians. President Ravi thanked all who contributed to this effort. The children of the Don Bosco Home presented songs and Sumazau dance PDG Datuk Zainie hosted the breakfast at BTC, Heritage Plaza and President Ravi the afternoon tea at Menggatal on our return journey.
