COMMUNITY SERVICE
BACK TO SCHOOL
RC Kulai organized a Back To School project in 27 Jan 2019 which handed out 500 pairs of school uniforms, 500 pairs of shoes and tooth brushes to needy primary school students from SJK ( C ) Kelapa Sawit, SJK ( C ) Sedenak, SJK ( C ) Kulai 2, SJK ( C ) Saleng and SJK (T) Gelang Patah.

ROTARY CHILD BURSARIES
RC of Puteri Lagoon organized a second round of Rotary Child Bursaries & School Kits Presentation which benefitted 197 needy students from 15 Muar Primary Schools. The event was held at DSJK ( C ) San Chai on 27 Jan 2019.


SCHOLARSHIP
RC of Tanglin is partnering with Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to assist talented students to pursue a nursing or similar health degree programme offered by SIT. The funds raised by the club combined with matching grant by the government of Singapore is sufficient now to start a scholarship of SGD7,500 annually and in perpetuity.

LUNCH FOR SENIORS
RC of Kulai organized a lunch on 19 Jan 2019 gathering for seniors at Kulai Old Folks home. They also presented Hong Baos and sundry goods to them.

BATU PAHAR LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE
108 Rotarians from RC of Batu Paha as well as Rotaractors and Interactors took part in Batu Pahat Lunar New Year Parade on 19 Jan 2019.

USHERING IN THE LUNAR NEW YEAR
RC Singapore and Rotaract Club of Singapore helped to usher in the festive spirit for residents of the Society of the Aged Sick on 19Jan 2019.

SPREADING FESTIVE CHEER
RC of Bandar Seri Begawan helped to cheer up 5 needy households by donating to them daily necessities.

GAMBAS SENIOR CITIZENS
RC Sentosa, Rotarian Rachel Wong, Rotarian Cindy Ee and Rotarian Alan Neo sponsored a community event for senior citizens from the Gambas constituency on 26 Jan 2019. The event was graced by Minister of Education, Mr. Ong Ye Kung.

GLASS RECYCLE PROJECT
Rotarians from RC Penampang – the RIPPLE Team – launched their project on glass recycling on 23 Jan 2019. This is the first glass recycling project in Sabah. The Guest-of-Honor was YB Assaffal P. Alian.

MID-YEAR REVIEW
A mid-year review for Assistant Governors was conducted in Batam (26/1/19). Thanks to DG Henry Tan for his leadership and PP Bou Leong for all the groundwork.

LUNAR NEW YEAR LO HEI DINNER – SINGAPORE
Come and join this fellowship with DG Henry Tan and DFL Ellen on Fri 8 Feb 2019 at the Jade Phoenix Restaurant, Singapore Swimming Club at 7 p.m. Cost: approximately SGD70.

KEY APPOINTMENT
BIMP-EAGA ENVIRONMENT CLUSTER
THE BIMP-Eaga Business Vcouncil (BEBC) Malaysia has made an offer to the President of the Sabah Wetlands Society PDG Datuk Zainie Aucasa to head the Environment in all future meetings of BIMP-Eaga. This is in recognition of PDG Zainie’s contribution and commitment towards the conservation of the wetlands. Well done PDG Zainie!

BATTLE OF THE BANDS
This is a Rotary Day (23/2/19) project organized by The Rotary Club of Pandan Valley. Proceeds will go to TASEK JURONG for Access to Education for the Under Privileged program. You can reg-ister with rotaryclubofpandanvalley@gmail.com 


DISTRICT MANDARIN MEMBERSHIP SEMINAR JOHOR/MELAKA AREA
This event was hosted by RC of Yong Peng on 5 Jan 2019. It was a well-attended event.


DONATION TO THE PONTIAN ROTARY HAEMODIALYSIS CENTRE & PONTIAN ROTARY FOUNDATION
The Star Foundation the charitable arm of Star Media Group donated MYR50,000 in cash to the captioned Centre. The donation was very timely as the Centre was experiencing cash shortage. This Centre was opened on July 2, 1997 and at that time there was no dialysis centre in the Pontian area. Those with kidney problems had to commute to Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat, Melaka and even Singa-pore for dialysis treatment.

Dato Seri Dr. Wee Jeck Seng, former MP of Tanjung Piai presented a donation of MYR20,000 on behalf of an anonymous donor to the Pontian Rotary Foundation on 7 Jan 2019.


SERVICE PROJECT FOR JOHOR/MELAKA
RC of Batu Pahat joined with the District Vocational Service to initiate a project to provide free legal (civil) and affordable psychological counselling services to its community. The venue will be at One Rotary House, Batu Pahat. It will be held twice a month from Feb 2019 to June 2019 (4 hours per session).


LAW AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
This a joint project of RC of Pontian, RC of Tebrau and Majlis Peguam Bar Council. It was held on 12 Jan 2019 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at Pontian Rotary Haemodialysis Centre.


DONATION OF BICYCLES
RC of Sentosa handed over 888 bicycles in Siem Reap on 13 Jan 2019. The event was graced by Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province. Three TV stations filmed the event which was broad-casted on Cambodian national TV.

CHARITY BANQUET
Yayasan Rotary Kluang Haemodialysis Centre is holding a 20th Anniversary Charity Banquet on 26 Jan 2019 at & p.m. at Tiong Hwa Restaurant , Jalan Wayang, Kluang.


VISIT TO DEAF AND SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS
RC of Batu Pahat paid a visit to SK Pendidikan Khas, Batu Pahat on 14 Jan 2019. Basic school items such as school bags, pampers and milk powder were donated.

PETS 1 TRAINING
For the Singapore area the event was held on 12 Jan 2019 at Graduate Club, NUSS Kent Ridge. Thanks to Joanne Kam.
For the Johor/Melaka area the event was held on 13 Jan 2019 a Trove Hotel, Johor Bahru. The host club was RC of Puteri Lagoon.
For the Kota Kinabalu area the event was held on 19 Jan 2019.

DISTRIBUTION LUNAR NEW YEAR PACKS AT WOODLANDS
To usher in the Lunar New Year, Rotary Clubs in Singapore together with Rotaract Club of North West joined up with Northwest Community Development Council and Woodlands Grassroots Or-ganisation to distribute festive packs to residents of Block 806 Woodlands Street 81 on Sat 19 Jan 2019. The Guest-of-Honour was Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC Amrin Amin (an ex-Interactor).


LA VALLA SCHOOL VILLAGE FARM WORKSHOP PROJECT, PHNOM PENH, CAMBO-DIA

Rotary Club of Changi completed it’s fund-raising exercise to finance the erection of a work-shop-cum-training centre which will train handicapped in farming skills so that they will be in a better position to stand on their own. The cost of the project amounted to US$32,584.97. Sev-eral of their members and spouses as well as DG Henry Tan flew over to Cambodia on 18 Jan 2019 to witness the handover of the project to Lavalla School which is run by the Marist Brothers.


HELPING NEEDY STUDENTS
RC of Puteri Lagoon help raised MYR160K and the proceeds were used as bursaries and school kits to help 430 needy students rom 32 primary schools in Johor. A presen-tation ceremony was held on 20 Jan 2019.

ROTARY THEME FOR RY 2019-2020
RI President-elect Mark Daniel Maloney announced the theme in San Diego. The theme for 2019-20 is Rotary Connects the World. Mark Daniel asks Rotarians to strengthen the many ways that Rotary Connects the World, building the connections that allow talented, thoughtful, and generous people to unite and take meaningful action through Rotary service.
