International Understanding Visit to India 2018

Overview: Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu organized a week-long visit to India as its principal activity under the avenue of International Service for the Rotary Year 2017-18. The visit covered the three historic cities of Agra, Jaipur and Delhi culminating in a joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Delhi Panchshila Park. Our team of 34 Rotarians, spouses and children led by President Dr Ravi Mandalam of RCKK, departed from Kota Kinabalu on Feb 22 to Kuala Lumpur, en route to New Delhi. RI District 3310 Governor Datuk Lee Chuen Wan and First Lady Datuk Naomi Chong, Past District Governors Edward Sung Burongoh and Datuk Zainie Abdul Aucasa and spouse Datin Kalimah also graced the visit. Our Rotary team visited many ancient Mughal era monuments in Agra such as the world-famous Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandra, Fatehpur Sikri and Itmad-Ud-Daula. In Jaipur the team visited the Palace of Winds, Amer Fort, City Palace and Jantar Mantar. In Delhi visits were made to the India Gate War Memorial, Qutb Minar, Jama Masjid and Akshardam Temple. On the 28th of February we visited the Rotary Club of Delhi Panchshila Park. President Subhash C Khanna of the host Club and President Ravi of RC Kota Kinabalu jointly presided the meeting that started with the singing of the national anthem of India and Malaysia. The meeting was also graced by the District Governor of D3011 DG Ravi Choudhary. President Ravi made a PowerPoint presentation that covered a brief description of Sabah and the projects and activities of RC Kota Kinabalu. The talk was followed by a sumptuous Indian dinner and fellowship. Rotarians of both clubs exchanged gifts. The occasion also presented an opportunity for three members of the Inner Wheel Club of Kota Kinabalu to meet their counterparts in Delhi. The Rotary team departed from Delhi on the night of March 1 to arrive back at Kota Kinabalu next day, carrying many memories, pictures and mementos of their India visit.
