Overview: THE FOUNDATION OF ROTARY CLUBS (SINGAPORE) FLAG DAY – 2017 This year the FRCS Flag Day was held on Saturday 28 Oct 2017. Even before the actual day around 800 volunteers have expressed their interest in supporting and helping the event in various ways. These volunteers were drawn from the Rotaract Clubs of Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore West, Singapore Management University, Raffles City, NTU, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, North West, Singapore Institute of Technology, DANG (District Alumni), Interact Club members/students of Fuchun Seondary, Peicai Secondary, ACS International, Pei Chun Secondary, Saint Joseph Institution International, Raffles Institution, Catholic Junior College, Hwa Chong, Global Indian, NPS, Greendale, Evergreen, Yusof Ishak, Bukit Gombak Eagles and Nanyang Junior College and Rotarians. On the actual date around 700 volunteers went out to various locations around the island to sell flags. They then returned the bags of cash to various centres after they have finished the task of collecting donations from the public. This was only part of the hard work. All the cash collected from the various centres was then sent to FRCS office at Chinatown Point. It is here that the more tedious work begins. The cash collected needed to be sorted out, counted and bundled up in order to be ready for deposit into FRCS’s bank account. We are happy to note that around 100 back room “heroes” came and offered their help. These include the students from Chong Boon Secondary and Bukit Merah Robotics as well as Rotarians. Dr. Gong, a director of FRCS, attributed the success of the Flag Day first of all to the selfless efforts rendered by a great number of volunteers in the field. Secondly, he also paid tribute to those back room volunteers who carried out and completed various time consuming tasks. For this he singled out the hard work undertaken by Rotaractor Amy Wong and Past President Le Oi Cheng. In summing up the event, Dr. Gong said: “It was a worthwhile project as it has helped to bond all the volunteers together”. Past President Li Guan Sheng FRCS Rotary Flag Day 2017 Chairperson
