Project REAL (Rural focus – English for All) Inter-school Competition

Overview: Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl in collaboration with the Sabah State Education Department organized an English Language Inter-school Competition in Story Telling, Speech Competition & Poetry Writing on the 19th September 2017. The event was launched by District 3310 AG Francis Chan. Among the invited guests were Mr. Abidin Marjan, Head of Sector, academic management sector and IPP Datuk Noni Said. This event was one of the activities of RCKK Pearl’s signature Project REAL. The main objective of Project REAL is to bridge the gap in English literacy between urban and rural schools. 24 students from Primary 4, 5 & 6 from SK Pekan Kiulu, SK Kawang Papar, SK St Edmund Kota Belud and SK Pomotodon Inanam participated in the story telling and speech competition. The club had earlier received 60 entries in the poetry writing competition and all the poems were on display during the competition. The standard of English displayed by all the children was impressive and trophies and cash prizes were awarded to the winners. SK Pekan Kiulu was the overall winner of the Challenge Trophy 2017.
