Global Grant 1642940 GIFT OF SIGHT SABAH launch on Sep 11, 2017

at Daycare Ward, Level 5, Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Kota Kinabalu

Global Grant 1642940 is a multiple-club Grant jointly partnered by six clubs in Sabah, namely, Rotary Clubs of Likas Bay, Kota Kinabalu, Tanjung Aru, Labuan, Sandakan North and Tawau to sponsor the intra ocular lenses for patients with cataract from poorer socioeconomic strata of society in Sabah. It is estimated that 30,000 patients are waiting for surgery in Sabah that require such assistance. The Grant was achieved through corporate partnership by HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad that donated RM 95000 and International Rotary partners from District 3520 and 3500 in Taiwan that donated US Dollars 13000. The Rotary Clubs in Sabah together contributed US Dollars 17000. All these contributions were matched by The Rotary Foundation to obtain a total grant amount of US Dollars 85464. Rotary clubs in Sabah are working together with the State Ophthalmological Services of the Ministry of Health to address the problem of blindness caused by cataract. Ministry of Health has its own program the Klinik Katarak 1Malaysia program. Global Grant 1642940 was formally launched by District Governor Datuk Lee Chuen Wan on Monday Sep 11, 2017 at the Daycare Ward of Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Kota Kinabalu. Presidents and members from the participating Clubs in KK, Tawau and Sandakan were present. Past President KP Lu welcomed all the attendees. PDG Philip Chong the initiator of the Project gave an outline of the project. President Dr Ravi gave the thanksgiving address. Director of Hospital Queen Elizabeth Dr Heric Corray, Head of State Ophthalmology Services Dr Shuaibah Abdul Ghani and Head of Department of Ophthalmology, Hospital Queen Elizabeth Dr Sheena Alexander and their staff also graced the occasion.
