The 3rd IQuiz Sarawak Regional Championship was organized by the Rotary Club of Kuching Central in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus) on the 5th of August 2017. A total of 74 teams from Interact clubs of secondary schools all over Sarawak participated in this year’s championship. While most teams were from Kuching-based schools, there were two schools from Bintulu, namely SMK Bandar Bintulu and SMK Kidurong.
The IQuiz is a competition that tests teams of three members on questions of general knowledge, maths, science, linguistic skills, as well as Interact and Rotary knowledge. Each school could send as many teams as they liked, with no registration fee.
After a closely-fought preliminary round, six teams all from different schools moved into the final round where ‘The Neopolitans’ of SMK St. Thomas emerged as the Regional Champions. They received the Sarawak Challenge trophy, individual medals, and a cash prize of RM300. In addition, they received air tickets and accommodation to represent Sarawak and compete in the National Level IQuiz Grand Finals for the 10th Challenge Trophy at Sunway University on 9th September 2017.
The first runner up of the 3rd IQuiz Sarawak Regional Championship went to ‘Ko Ko Bop’ from Lodge International who received individual medals and RM200. Team ‘SJPS 1’ represented St. Joseph Private to win 3rd place, receiving individual medals and RM100.
At the Grand Finals on the 9th of September, ‘The Neopolitans’ represented Sarawak and scored the highest in the preliminary round. After the final round, they went on to be placed 2nd overall. We look forward to next year’s IQuiz and to even better performances from the various teams of Sarawak.
