August has been a Membership and New Club Development Month. According to Chair Khushroo, our District membership has climbed back almost to the 2000 level again. Many of the 29 clubs which I have so far visited have registered membership increase and others are working hard to increase their membership. I am very encouraged by the increase in lady Rotarians in our District so far and I expect to see more being inducted in the months ahead. Please keep up themomentum but at the same don’t forget topay attention to membership retention at all times.
September is Basic Education and Literacy Month. I know that many clubs have already planned to carry out service projects relating to this area of focus. Please implement them with members participation.
I wish to encourage all Clubs again to also SHARE your club service projects and activities which you have reported in your own club bulletins in our District Newsletter by sending them to the DIC. Service projects and activities of your Interactors and Rotaractors are also welcome. Club Youth Service Chairs kindly take note. I notice that many of such projects and activities were sent to Whatsapp chat groups and Facebook. Why not share them in our District Newsletter as well for the benefit of all our District members. So far a handful of clubs have started sharing their activities and service projects. I urge more to do so. I will be monitoring this closely.
The nomination for the District Governor 2020-21 has closed and I have received 4 nominations. They are, in alphabetical order, Kam Huey Jiuan Joanne PP of RC Suntec City, Munisamy Rajamohan PP of RC Pandan Valley, Yeap Dolly Siew Keat PP of RC Kulai and Yap Lip Kee PP Dr of RC Singapore. The District Nomination Committee will interview and evaluate these candidates and submit the nominee to me for announcement to members of the District. So stay tune.
In September I will start visiting 4 clubs in Kota Kinabalu and will proceed to the clubs in Sibu andSarekie to join their End Polio Run.
After visiting RC Kota Kinabalu on Monday 11 Sep Monday 2017, I will fly off to Singapore and then to Johor Bahru until the end of September.
I am looking forward to meet Rotarians in Singapore and Johor.
Meanwhile to the clubs which I have visited please implement what I have advised you immediately. Remember to carry out your service projects and activities to fulfil this year theme which is to serve humanity and to make a difference. Start the efforts to attract more members to join Rotary and also to donate generously to the Rotary Foundation. Remember to engage your Rotary family as well namely your Rotaractors and Interactors.
