Message from District Governor Jeff Yong for The Month of February 2020

Monday, 2 March 2020

The month of February is designated as Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution month. It is a very significant month in the calendar of Rotary International as Rotary International celebrates its 115th birthday on February 23, 2020; which has now been designated as World Understanding and Peace Day.

World Understanding and Peace Day is a great opportunity for each and every member to plan and promote the fourth Avenue of Service; The advancement of International Understanding and Goodwill and Peace as essential components for World Peace.

Rotary International Board of Directors in its quest to promote World Understanding and Peace has therefore encouraged all clubs in our district to plan a special weekly meeting and/or organize events or activities in relevance to this initiative.

Rotary Peace Run, initiated by Rotary International District 3420 (East Indonesia), was held on February 4, 2020 in Kota Kinabalu. PDG Datuk Hj Zainie Abdul Aucasa represented on my behalf due to a unforeseen reschedule of the event.

District 3310 is proud to welcome another mandarin speaking club, RC Pasir Gudang Mandarin as they celebrated their Charter night and fundraising dinner on January 4, 2020. The newly chartered club is under the helm of Charter President Goh Hee Seng.

I had the privileged to participate in the Rotary District 3310 International Service Committee Global Grant Projects Visit to Central Vietnam on January 6-12, 2020. These meaningful projects benefitted and helped improve lives in their local communities. The clubs involved in the Global Grants Projects are RC Singapore, RC Marina City and RC Queenstown.

Incoming District Governor, Rajamohan Munisamy as Convenor of the 30th PETS/DISTAS had rescheduled the event to April 30-May 2, 2020. Early bird registration has now been further extended to April 4, 2020. I therefore urge Rotarians, in particular incoming club officers to register as soon as possible.

In view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation, some of the Rotary Clubs in Singapore had cancelled their weekly meetings and I must applaud Club President Deepak and members of Rotary Club of Singapore for having initiated its first online Webinar on Feb 12, 2020. This is a great alternative to stay connected!

RC Bintulu and RC Tawau had simultaneously postponed their RYLA events in March 2020.

I wish you all the best. Stay safe.

Jeff Yong
