November is Rotary Foundation Month. The month of November is the month Rotary International dedicates to the programs and activities of the Rotary Foundation and this gives us a wonderful opportunity to focus our attention on the many great things that our foundation delivers to our world. Let us take a moment to reflect on the words of Past Rotary International President, Arch Klump, “We should not live for ourselves alone, but for the joy in doing good for others.”
A historic announcement was made on 24th October 2019 World Polio Day by Rotary and its Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners that the wild poliovirus type 3, or WPV3 had been eradicated globally.
As I complete the first quarter as your District Governor in October 2019, I had officially visited 50 Clubs within our district D3310 in Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak and Johor. It was a productive month of various events and conferences which were held back to back.
At the District Foundation Dinner: A Night with Trustee Chair Gary C K Huang hosted by RC Garden City on 8th October 2019 at the Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, Honorary Member Dato’ Dr Tan Hian Tsin of RC Garden City generously made an impromptu pledge of 1:1 towards all fund raised during the dinner. Organising Chair, DGND Joanne Kam announced that Rotarians pledges to the Annual Fund, Endowment Fund and PolioPlus Fund of the Rotary Foundation totalled USD455,246.00. With the matching pledge by Dato’ Dr Tan in the presence of Trustee Chair Gary C K Huang, a record-breaking USD910,492.00 was raised at the event.
The launching of The Rotary Foundation Coffee Table Book written by PDG Zainie Abdul Aucasa was held on 2nd October 2019 at the Kulai Haemodylisis Centre.
Rotary Club of Bandar Penggaram Mandarin under the stewardship of Charter President Christina Lim held their Charter and fundraising Night on 11th October 2019 with 71 members.
The 2nd Rotary Mandarin Club Development Conference at KSL hotel, Johor Bahru on 4th-6th October 2019 was organised by Rotary Club of Pontian.
The 9th Joint District 3300 & 3310 Seeing Eye to Eye Conference 2019 was held on 19th October 2019 organised by Organising Chair, PP John Chan of Rotary Club of Kuching.
The District Membership Seminar was organized by Organising Chair, PP Rayanna of Rotary Club of Penampang on 26th October 2019 in Kota Kinabalu.
On a final note, one may envision that my busy schedule is “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. On the contrary, I had a wonderful time visiting all the Clubs and had enjoyed the warm hospitality and connections with Rotarians and friends of Rotary within and beyond our District as ROTARY CONNECTS THE WORLD.
