ROTARACT ELEVATED TO ROTARY INTERNATIONAL MEMBERSHIP

The proposed enactment 19-72, to elevate Rotaract from a Rotary program to membership of Rotary International, is passed.

What is the purpose of this enactment?

The enactment acknowledges Rotaract clubs in the RI Constitution and Bylaws and elevate them into an important member of the Rotary family. Rotaract clubs will continue to have their own standard constitution but will enjoy greater support from RI.

How does RI benefit from the new enactment?

The change broadens the definition of membership in RI to include Rotaract clubs.

We will be able to learn more about Rotaractors and improve the support and resources we offer to help Rotaract grow.

Already our partner in service, we will be able to better track Rotaractors’ impact and expand our reach.

Does this mean Rotaractors will start paying dues to Rotary International?

No. The enactment does not require Rotaract clubs or Rotaractors to pay dues to RI.

The RI Board will review any proposal to introduce dues to Rotaract clubs or Rotaractors separately and will consider an amount that is fair, what products and services Rotaractors would identify as valuable in exchange for dues, and implement any changes in a thoughtful way over time.

Does this mean Rotaractors will all become Rotarians?

No. The enactment will not change the separate identity that Rotaractors currently enjoy. It simply expands the membership of Rotary International to include both Rotary and Rotaract clubs.

How will this change the Rotaract experience?

The enactment will not change Rotaractors’ unique club experience. Rotaract clubs maintain their current relationships with their sponsor Rotary clubs. They continue as Rotaractors but will have a much closer partnership with RI as recognized members of RI, rather than as a program of Rotary.

How many Rotaract clubs and members are there currently?

As of 1 April 2019, there are 161,621 reported Rotaractors and 9,887active Rotaract clubs. This represents a net increase of 15,673 Rotaractors and 763 Rotaract clubs since 1 July 2018.

How many Rotaractors are also Rotarians?

An estimate is around 1,300 dual Rotary-Rotaract club members.

Why doesn’t Rotary change Rotaract clubs into Rotary clubs?

Rotaractors are very proud of their organization and their brand identity as young leaders. Rotary wants to acknowledge and celebrate this unique identity and their valuable contributions.

Will Rotaractors be able to serve on district committees?

At its April 2019 meeting, the RI Board took a decision to amend Article 17.030.2. of the Rotary Code of Policies to allow Rotaractors to serve on a district committee.

Can Rotaract clubs vote at the Council on Legislation or at district conferences now?

No. Rotaract clubs will not be counted in the overall number of clubs in a district, nor does this change grant those clubs a vote at a Rotary district conference or separate representation at the Councils on Legislation. However, Rotaractors will continue to be encouraged to contact their district’s delegate to discuss items that will be voted on to share their thoughts or comments.

Will Rotaractors automatically get a copy of_ The Rotarian _magazine now?

No. Membership dues to RI cover the cost of a subscription to _The Rotarian_ for Rotarians. Currently, Rotaractors do not pay dues to Rotary International.
