Dear Fellow Rotarians,

A Nation in Concert (ANIC) brings together theatre practitioners and differently-abled talents.  Past musicals ran in 2005, 2006 and 2008.  The Rotary Club of Pandan Valley is proud to present A Nation in Concert this year at The Marina Bay Sands theatre on 8 November 2014.  There will be 2 shows.  One matinee at 3pm and another evening show at 7.0pm.

The production costs of this musical has been fully sponsored and all net proceeds from this musical will be channelled to participating charities: APSN, HWA, SADeaf, SAVH.  All four voluntary welfare organisations are part of the Care & Share Movement.  As such all proceeds channelled to them will be entitled to matching grants by the government on a one for one basis via the National Council of Social Service.

This musical has also been accorded by the National Arts Council the eligibility for the Tote Board Arts Grant subsidy.  This means that schools: Pri-Lower, Pri-Upper, Sec-Lower, Sec-Upper, JC/CI, ITE may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise 50% of the programme cost. We urge all Club Presidents to share this meaningful musical with schools that you have sponsored Interact and Rotaract clubs and for them to utilise this subsidy for their students to participate and be inspired from this show.

School Principals would all be familiar with this NAC-AEP scheme.

Ultimately this musical serves as a platform for empowerment, enrichment and education.  Empowering the less privileged that they have talents that can be appreciated by an inclusive society.  Enriching the lives of people volunteering and participating in a good cause that delivers meaningful impact to the differently abled and their loved ones.  Educating the young on positive values of an inclusive society and appreciation of talents from the local arts talents.

The musical is directed by Jonathan Lim, renown in his contribution in the local theatre arts circle with productions at Wild Rice and performed at the yearly Chestnuts show since 1996.  Award winning playwright Desmond Sim, who have staged numerous plays by Theatreworks and Action Theatre.  He had written for the earlier ANIC productions and decided to write a brand new story and script for this year show that will be presented by The Rotay Club of Pandan Valley.

The synopsis

Inhabitants of Sungei Buloh celebrate the annual Save the Swamp Day with a variety concert.  3 Self-absorbed youngsters remain aloof and refuse to contribute.  BUT, the Migratory Birds are planning their own concert on the same dayThe land and waterdwellers were outraged by the migratory birds involvement in their community  But nature has other plans for them………and there was much spying and espionage between the 2 camps.

Playing to the backdrop of our wetlands-Sungei Buloh, the musical will tell the story of how multi-cultural and multi-species residents drop their sides and struggles to help each other in times of need.  This musical in November provides a good run-up to SG50 activities with a storyline that will touch our hearts.

So Rotarians, be a part of this Rotary Day activity and join us in this meaningful cause.  Book your tickets at SISTIC now in the link below!
