Hello everyone,

Greetings and best wishes for 2011!

Our PR grant application for Rotary Coffee Table Book project has been approved, and over the next 6 months, we will be toiling to collate inspiring stories of the last 80 years of Rotary in our district.

The advisory committee had 2 meetings over last month. In the month of January & February, we will be doing research and interviews. In march, our editors will filter thru all the research to write inspiring tales. April & May are meant for editing, proof reading and design and in June the books will be distributed.

Over the next few months, please excuse me as I post questions to facilitate research over the yahoo group. My thread topic will begin with Rotary 80yrs as the title. And if you are holding on to knowledge, please do share by replying to me, if you dont want to spam the yahoo group mail list.

More info on the book is appended here.

80 YEARS OF SERVICE ABOVE SELF
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT 3310 (SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, BRUNEI)

August 2010 marked the 80th year the Rotary movement has set foot in Singapore & Malacca, and spread its wings over the region. Over the last 80 years, Rotarians have silently contributed much altruistically.

The presence of Rotary is evident everywhere albeit covertly.
The public is not aware that there were many organizations which are founded and initiated by Rotary.
• Rotary Dialysis Centres & Family Service Centre
• Meals from the Heart, ST Pocket Fund, SINDEX
• Rotary ASME Entrepreuner Award
• Singapore After Care Associaion, Spore Cancer Society, Dyslexia Association of Singapore, Singapore Anti Tuberculosis Association, Singapore Anti Narcotics Association, Salvation Army
• United Nations etc

Or that the following roads or places were named after famous Rotarians
• Braddell Road (Sir Roland Braddell), Farrer Road (Roland Farrer), Koon Seng Road, Boon Keng Road, Frankel Avenue, Clarke Quay, Mistri Wing in Singapore General Hospital.

Or that we even have an orchid flower named after Rotary!

There is a need to collate, record, and preserve Rotary’s effort before it is forgotten. Publish or Perish!
