Dear Fellow Rotarians,
I am pleased to inform that after much deliberation and consideration we have finalised the seminar program for Singapore.
Session 1 will be on PR and session 2 will be on Membership. We have decided to try out a different approach to the membership segment. On first look, it will look like the same as all other seminars with so many speakers talking for 20 minutes each. It will be called Facilitation Session instead of panel session. What we are going to experiment is facilitation style with audience participation as the speakers present their respective topics. The topics are intended to be seamless and sequential presentation of topics. The main difference will be, it is a 2 way interaction and we hope attendees will respond and give their comments and views when engaged by the facilitators. There will not be an open forum at the end of the presentation. Instead all discussions, suggestions and action plan will be during the presentation.
The facilitation topic will be called “The New Focus: What It Is and membership action plan”. The New Focus is a presentation based on four key concepts gleaned from the siegel + gale report. That report has fundamentally changed traditional thinking about Rotary members – what attracts and retain members.
The New Focus introduces some very basic, simple tools that District and Club leaders can adopt with immediate actions to attract and retain members consistent with the siegel + gale concepts.
As I said, this is will be an experiment and a brave move away from traditional methods in making a change in how we present the seminars. The facilitation style will only be tried in Singapore for session 2 and attendees feedback and response to the change will be taken to decide if this approach is workable and acceptable by Rotarians who invest their valuable afternoon on a weekend. Your support will be very much appreciated.
With this topic you can even bring potential members as it will show them how Rotary is evolving from the traditional practice to one specifically focused on the impact to local community and what are we going to do and what are we doing now. There will even be some points to take home why they should join Rotary.
It is brought to my attention that the registration till now is very poor and I seek your support to attend the seminar where the Regional Membership Chair PP Dr Jeffrey Seow, Organising Club RC Pandan Valley and all the participants has put in so much effort to bring this seminar to you.
Immediately after the seminar from 6 pm to 7 pm, whether the seminar had met your expectations or not, we can all join in the fellowship with wine, beer and of course soft drinks and hot beverages which will be on me. PP Joanne Kam will organise this and also a dinner fellowship from 7 pm onwards.
Best Regards
Mohan
