Rotary International News — 26 July 2010

Your first day in office is here so we’ve asked past club and district leaders for helpful preparation tips for the first days of your term. Here are some things to consider:

* Plan early and with continuity.
* Continue to support past projects that carry on into your year, even if it isn’t something within your area of interest.
* Fill the positions of your team as early as possible
* Never be afraid to delegate — you can’t do everything yourself.
* Remember your resources and rely on them from time to time (club, district, and zone level leaders) for advice.
* Become acquainted with counterparts at the International Assembly and PETS.
* Consult news and old members for a historical perspective.
* Have three short speeches prepared on generic content that can be adapted to the situation.
* Don’t forget to say “thank you” — people appreciate being appreciated.
* Have fun!
* Remember that planning is key, but action is where the service is.
